Philanthropic Advising and Support
Tyler helps philanthropists identify, select, and support grantees so that their philanthropic investments extend far beyond the value of cash. He brings 15 years of experience working both on the nonprofit (e.g. grant-seeking) side of the social change sector and on the philanthropic side (e.g. advising philanthropists, creating capacity-building programs for grantees and constituents, and serving on grant committees).
Tyler partners with private and corporate foundations in the following areas:
- Designing, implementing, and evaluating grant-making strategies.
- Providing capacity-building for grantees across the areas of strategic planning, fundraising, evaluation, and communications.
- Serving as a subject matter expert on grant review committees.
Tyler has worked in these capacities for GlaxoSmithKline, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and the MTV Staying Alive Foundation.

Evaluation Strategy and Execution
As a Rhodes Scholar with doctoral and masters degrees in Public Health and Evidence-Based Social Intervention, Tyler has designed evaluation frameworks for youth development initiatives, psychosocial behavior change programs, teen parenting support programs, and neighborhood-based interventions.
As a practitioner with experience as the founder and leader of a community health non-profit, he also understands the nuanced perspectives on evidence held by various stakeholders (e.g. philanthropists, government grant managers, community members, and practitioners).
In his consulting work, Tyler helps organizations craft an evaluation strategy that harmonizes with their values and resonates with the diverse desires and requirements of the stakeholders with whom you need to communicate the impact of their work.
Fundraising and Grant Writing
Tyler helps nonprofit leaders sharpen their fundraising strategies and skills so they can sustain and scale their work. He knows what it’s like to be an Executive Director who wears many hats and still needs to ensure an organization has the resources for making a lasting social impact. He has a successful track record of raising over $6 million throughout his career, securing funds from corporations, government agencies, private foundations, and high-net-worth individuals. He uses innovative strategies, relationship-based fundraising, and streamlined systems to make fundraising efforts more effective and efficient.
Notable funders include:
- The White House
- A state Superintendent of Education, State Health Director, and State Deputy Mayor’s Office
- Multi-national pharmaceutical companies and major national healthcare providers
- Sports-related corporate sponsors
- More than 50 small, family foundations, individual philanthropists, and small businesses
In his consulting work in this area, Tyler provides strategic partnership in building a plan for sustainability and growth (if desired), and he also helps execute fundraising strategies. He offers support in high-level thinking about positioning an organization’s pitch and approaching potential donors, and he also helps to make direct donor solicitations. He can also provide strategy and execution support in establishing efficient systems to manage the fundraising process from start to finish.
